5 Pound Bag KDF 55 Filtration Media for Chlorine, Heavy Metal, Bacteria, and Iron Removal

The KDF-55 process medium is a 5-pound bag that serves as an effective agent for the removal of chlorine and water-soluble heavy metals. This unique, innovative, and environmentally responsible medium consists of high-purity copper-zinc granules that utilize redox (the exchange of electrons) in patented products to effectively reduce/remove chlorine and heavy metals, as well as control microorganisms in potable water.

The KDF-55 process medium has recently received NSF International Certification and is certified by NSF to the NSF/ANSI Standard 42. It is an effective chlorine removal agent used in the point-of-entry treatment of municipal water supplies. This medium controls scale, bacteria, and algae, even in hot water.

The recommended operating conditions for the KDF-55 process medium include a service flow (10" bed depth) of 15 gpm/ft2, a backwash for 10 minutes at twice the service flow, and a purge/rinse for 3 minutes at twice the service flow. The bed expansion during backwash should be 10 to 15%, and the free board should be 20%. The minimum bed depth (6" dia) should be 10". The pH range for drinking water is 6.5 to 8.5, and the water temperature should be between 35°F and 212°F.

The KDF process media are a great additive for filter tanks, and it is recommended to use 5-10 pounds in a standard whole-house filter carbon tank.
